Hawaii Electrical Maintenance Services LLC (HEMS) is a Hawaii-Island based company that specializes in electrical maintenance, testing, trouble-shooting and emergency response for customers with low voltage switchgear, medium and high voltage service, including high voltage substations.   We serve industrial and commercial customers who provide services and products to Hawaii-Island residents 24/7, 365 days a year.  We never take a holiday when it comes to the demands of our customers.

HEMS is comprised of highly-trained electricians and engineers that can trouble shoot problems, prescribe immediate remedies and provide long term preventative maintenance plans that work within the budget constraints of customers small and large.  We develop a custom plan for each customer that neutralizes the threat of a catastrophic system failure and provides an easy to follow preventative maintenance plan that gives owners and managers the piece of mind that their electrical system will perform without interruption.

The useful service life of an electrical distribution system (EDS) is 30-35 years.  With regular maintenance, an EDS could go as long as 50 years, but with anything man-made, failure is imminent.   The only question is whether or not an outage will be planned or unplanned.   Unplanned outages are generally devastating and very expensive, but can be very easily avoided.

HEMS has a wide scope of services designed to keep electrical systems working properly, diagnose and remedy problems and provide onsite electrical safety and maintenance training for staff and ownership.

TESTING

• HEMS can provide testing of new or existing power system components in accordance with manufacturers and/or ANSI/NETA standards

• Acceptance testing of new equipment to ANSI/NETA standards

• We can also recommend or develop tests and/or maintenance procedures to address know issues at a customer’s facility.

• Power Quality Monitoring and meter installation

TROUBLESHOOTING

• HEMS will respond to emergencies, diagnose the cause and restore power.

• We can identify the causes of breaker tripping and blown fuses

• We can also monitor voltage instability (black outs/brown outs/voltage sag)

SYSTEM DATA COLLECTION

• HEMS can provide onsite information and data gathering needed for:

  • Updating customer drawings

  • Coordination Studies

  • Performing Arc Flash Studies and Shock Risk Assessment

  • Upgrading obsolete equipment

  • Development of spare parts inventory

TRAINING

• HEMS can customize a facility-specific training package of classes that can delivered onsite and can include:

  • Familiarization of newly installed equipment. Emphasis in reading drawings, identifying problems and safely dealing with them.

  • Understanding basic information on relays and circuit breakers

  • Basic maintenance procedures

  • Basic electrical power and system operations.

  • NFPA 70E and OSHA Electrical Safety Training
